Barrel: Nowlin Super .38, measuring 5”, with a total length of 6 5/8” including compensator.
Sights / Optics: Comes with a Gilmore Red Leader red dot sight mounted securely for rapid target acquisition and optimal accuracy. The sight offers adjustable brightness levels suitable for various shooting conditions. There are no iron sights on the slide.
Slide: Caspian stainless steel slide featuring precision lightning cuts to reduce weight, enhance cycling speed, and improve overall firearm handling. The slide includes a charging handle to facilitate rapid manipulation during competition or tactical scenarios.
Frame Markings: The right side is marked “CASPIAN ARMS LTD., HARDWICK, VT U.S.A. / 23332”.
Barrel: Nowlin .38 Super barrel, measuring 5” without the compensator and 6 5/8” total length including the compensator. This barrel assembly ensures superior recoil management, accuracy, and velocity control.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The kit includes checkered wood grips with smooth grip screw diamonds. There are no chips or cracks. The checkering remains crisp. Grips display minor signs of handling and remain in Very Good condition overall. Features a flared mainspring housing to enhance grip and ensure rapid magazine changes during competition use. Notably, this housing shows previous fitting.
Bore Condition: The Nowlin barrel is mostly bright and the rifling is defined. There is stubborn fouling present; in this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 7.5/10. There is heavy carbon buildup in the compensator and on and around the feed ramp.
Overall Condition: This custom Caspian 1911 Race Gun set is an impressive assortment of competition-grade components in very good condition. However, the frame shows evidence of previous welding around and inside the drilled and tapped holes for the sight mount, polishing, and scattered scratches. These frame modifications and welds reduce its overall condition to Good, warranting inspection by a qualified gunsmith prior to commencing a new build project.
Mechanics: All provided components, including the slide assembly, barrel, compensator, and optics appear fully operational and well-maintained. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements. Given the frame’s welding history, consulting a competent gunsmith before final assembly and use is highly recommended.
