There are two sight blocks installed on the barrel, one just in front of the receiver and the other just rear of center. There is a pair of drilled and tapped holes just behind those of the rear block, one covered and one exposed by the block. The stocks have some scattered nicks, scuffs and scratches. There is a chip-loss at the toe. The LOP measures 13 7/8″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The plate has generally strong case color with some wear around the edges and well defined checkering. Overall, the stocks are in Good-plus condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 10 out of 10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 92% of its metal finish. The finish is thinning at some edges, mostly on the barrel. The barrel has light nicks, scuffs and scratches with a few minor marks on the receiver. The action shows light operational wear. The screw heads range from sharp to tool marked with strong slots. The markings are generally clear, the caliber marking on the barrel is interrupted by the rear sight block mounting holes. Overall, this rifle is in Very Good-plus condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: An Action brand slip-on buttpad is included as well as the installed scope.

Our Assessment: Christian Sharps introduced one of America’s first and most successful breech-loading rifles with design starting in 1850 and improvements continuing into the 1870s and the metallic cartridge era. This rifle is a very high quality reproduction of the 1875 Rifle model, a rifle which was purpose-built for use with metallic cartridges, rather than built off the earlier percussion frame. This example is chambered for the ubiquitous .22 Long Rifle cartridge and shows signs of limited use. It should make for a great shooter for the lucky winner or a great addition to a Sharps collection. Please see our photos and good luck!
