Our Assessment: The Bushmaster ACR, or Adaptive Combat Rifle, grew out of Magpul’s Masada concept and entered commercial production under Bushmaster in 2010 as one of the most ambitious modular rifle designs of its era. Its defining features include a regulated short-stroke gas-piston system, quick-change barrel architecture, rotating bolt, folding and telescoping stock, ambidextrous controls, and a multi-caliber receiver system. The 6.8 SPC II configuration is particularly interesting because it demonstrates the modularity that was central to the ACR concept, offering a larger-bore cartridge than the more common 5.56 NATO configuration while retaining the same basic operating system and magazine-fed layout. This example combines the factory multi-caliber receiver with a 6.8 SPC II barrel, AAC 51T suppressor mount, folding adjustable stock, and an upgraded M-LOK forend with G10 gripping surfaces. This rifle remains in Very Good to Excellent condition, retaining approximately 99% of its original metal finish. The exterior shows only faint handling marks and light scratches, while the action exhibits minimal operational wear. The markings remain clear and the screw heads are sharp. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and no visible erosion, though very light stubborn fouling remains present, rating 9.5/10 in this writer’s opinion. The polymer furniture and installed aluminum forend show only light handling wear and remain free of chips or cracks. Mechanically, the action functions properly.
For collectors and shooters interested in modern modular rifle systems, the ACR remains one of the most distinctive commercial designs of the early 21st century. The 6.8 SPC II chambering, quick-change barrel system, adjustable gas block, folding stock, and multi-caliber architecture give this example considerably more technical interest than a conventional direct-impingement sporting rifle. The included Bushmaster hard case, 30-round magazine, spare Picatinny quad-rail forend, AAC 51T mount, and upgraded M-LOK handguard make this a particularly well-equipped ACR package. -R.E.
