Our Assessment: This Browning Superposed Skeet was manufactured in Belgium in 1951 and is an excellent example of John M. Browning’s final firearm design. Built as a dedicated Skeet model, it features 26.5-inch barrels chambered in 12 gauge with fixed Skeet over Skeet chokes, making it ideally suited for the fast, close-range targets encountered on the skeet field. The shotgun is fitted with a brass bead front sight for a clean, consistent sight picture. Hand-built by FN in Liège, the Superposed earned a legendary reputation for its superb craftsmanship, exceptional balance, and durability, and it remains one of the most collectible production over-under shotguns ever made.
This example had the stock shortened at some point allowing it to better fit smaller stature shooters. Despite the modification, the shotgun remains in Good-Good+ overall condition and retains all of the qualities that have made the Belgian Superposed so highly regarded for generations. Combining classic Belgian craftsmanship, and the desirable skeet configuration, this 1951 Superposed should be a wonderful shooter and an appealing collector’s piece.
