Our Assessment: The Browning Superposed Lightning is one of the most beloved over-under shotguns of the 20th century. Designed by John M. Browning himself, the Superposed was his final firearm invention, and the Lightning variant offered a rounded frame with reduced weight and elegant balance for the discerning sportsman. This 1968 Belgian-made example showcases Browning’s signature craftsmanship with deeply blued barrels, a coin-finished engraved receiver, and checkered walnut stocks with the Lightning-style round knob.
Its 28” barrels are choked Fixed over Modified—an excellent all-around combination for upland birds, sporting clays, or casual trap. The fixed chokes and lack of modern embellishment highlight its classic field use design. Collectors will appreciate that this is a pre-1960 example, still made in Belgium before production later shifted.
Whether you are a collector seeking a fine Superposed for your vault or a shooter wanting a timeless over-under that blends history with function, this shotgun is a worthy choice. Please see our high quality photos and good luck on your bid! -M.C.
