Our Assessment: The Browning Arms Company SA-22 is one of the longest-produced semi-automatic rimfire rifles in firearms history, originally designed by John Moses Browning and introduced in the early 20th century. Known for its distinctive bottom-ejecting action and takedown design, the SA-22 became renowned for reliability, portability, and elegant styling. This Grade VI example adds factory engraving and upgraded wood, elevating the classic design into a more refined sporting rifle. Chambered in .22 Long Rifle, the rifle remains an excellent platform for recreational shooting and collecting alike.
This 1989 Miroku-produced example presents in Very Good plus overall condition, retaining a high percentage of its original finish with only light handling wear visible. The engraved receiver and trigger guard remain crisp and attractive, while the polished walnut stock set exhibits sharp checkering and good overall fit. A repaired chip is present on the right side of the wrist, though it appears to have been professionally reattached. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and only light fouling near the chamber. The action functions correctly, and the rifle retains its desirable takedown configuration and bottom-ejecting mechanism. Altogether, this Grade VI SA-22 stands as an attractive example of one of Browning’s most iconic rimfire rifles.
