Markings: The left side of the top barrel is marked “BROWNING ARMS COMPANY MORGAN, UTAH / MADE IN JAPAN/MIROKU” and the left side of the monobloc is marked “INVECTOR / PLUS / 28″“, “44” and “01746ZX”. There are a series of inspection marks between the locking lugs. The right side of the upper barrel is marked “CITORI SPECIAL STEEL 12 GA – 2 3/4″”. The inside of the forend iron is marked “01746” and the inside of the forend has “BA 01746” pressed into the wood. Both sides of the receiver are marked with the Browning BuckMark and “XS Skeet” in gold. The top tang is marked “01746ZX131” and the underside of the trigger guard also has the BuckMark in gold. The receiver has scroll engraving on the sides and botttom with gold motif.
Barrel Length: 28” Ported, Vent Rib
Choke: Both Barrels are threaded for Browning Invector Plus Chokes. Currently, Skeet over Skeet extended Winchester chokes are installed. Also included are two Browning flush fit Skeet chokes and a single Browning flush fit Improved Cylinder choke.
Sights / Optics: A Hi-Viz front sight is mounted to the front of the rib with a green fiber optic installed, there is a small white mid-bead. The top of the rib is finely checkered for glare reduction.
Weight: 8 lb 5 oz
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are checkered walnut with a finger grooves forend, pistol grip with a palm swell on the right side, straight comb and a black solid rubber Browning buttpad. There are a few scattered light handling marks and a couple of minor compressions. The checkering is sharp. There are no chips or cracks. The drop at comb is approximately 1 5/8?, drop at heel 1 5/8?. The cast is off. The LOP is 14 3/8? from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttpad. The pad has some light wear. The stocks rate in about Excellent condition.
Type of Finish: The barrels are blue, the receiver and trigger guard are silver nitride with gold accents.
Finish Originality: Original
Bore Condition: The bores are bright. There is no erosion.
Overall Condition: This shotgun retains about 97% of its metal finish. There are a few light marks on the barrels and there is some minor finish wear from installation and removal of the forend. There are a few little scuffs and marks on the bottom of the receiver. There are some light handling marks. There is standard operational wear. The markings are clear. Overall, this shotgun is in Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The barrels lock to the receiver with no play. The ejectors throw shells energetically. We have not fired this shotgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This shotgun comes with a black cardboard Browning box with serial matching label, four additional triggers, the previously described extra chokes, and numerous front sight inserts.
Our Assessment: This Browning XS Skeet is no longer offered by the factory, though there are still some XS series guns offered on a limited basis. This is a Skeet gun from the ground up, and needs to find a home with an active Skeet shooter looking for a 12 gauge. If that’s you, then this is a great looking gun that should perform every bit as well as it looks. With its ventilated top rib, ventilated side ribs between the barrels, porting, removable chokes and interchangeable trigger adjustable for length of pull this over/under is waiting for you to return it to the Skeet fields where it belongs. In its original box and with apparently everything it had brand-new, this is a great “used” option for the lucky winner. Please see our photos and good luck!
