Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “Browning Arms Company Morgan Utah & Montreal P.Q. Made in Japan” The right side of the barrel is marked “Browning Model 1885 Caliber 25-06 Only” The serial number is marked on the right side of the receiver. The receiver is engraved for the Wyoming Centennial 1890-1990.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blade that is dovetailed into the barrel. The rear sight is a spring leaf square notch with elevator dovetailed into the barrel. The receiver and barrel are drilled and tapped for a scope. 

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two-piece checkered walnut. The forend has a light Schnabel tip. The buttstock has a straight comb, straight grip, and crescent buttplate. The LOP measures 13 1/4″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. There are scratches and compression dents throughout. There are no chips or cracks. Overall this stock is in Good to Very Good condition.

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and rifling is sharp. There is no erosion. There is minor fouling in the bore. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 9.5/10.  

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 95% of its original finish. There are light scratches scattered throughout. There is some handling and operational wear. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall this rifle is in Good to Very Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We have not fired this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: The Browning Model 1885 High Wall is a modern Miroku-built interpretation of John M. Browning’s classic falling-block single-shot rifle, combining traditional styling with precise Japanese manufacture. This Wyoming Centennial example is chambered in .25-06 Remington and features a 30″ tapered octagon barrel, checkered walnut stocks, straight grip, crescent buttplate, and commemorative receiver engraving honoring Wyoming’s 1890-1990 centennial. Its long barrel and flat-shooting chambering give it strong appeal as both a commemorative and a practical sporting rifle.

The original Model 1885 was Browning’s first successful commercial firearm design and became known for its exceptional strength, simplicity, and accuracy. Browning revived the pattern in the modern era through Miroku production, preserving the lever-actuated falling-block action while adapting it to contemporary high-intensity cartridges. The .25-06 Remington is especially well suited to the High Wall platform, offering excellent velocity and long-range performance for varmints, predators, and medium game.
