Markings: The Right side of the barrel is marked “Browning Model 1885 CALIBER .45-70 GOVT”. The left side of the barrel is marked “ BROWNING ARMS COMPANY MORGAN, UTAH & MONTREAL P.Q. / MADE IN JAPAN NP”. The right side of the receiver is marked with the serial number. The scope is marked “LEUPOLD VARI-X III 1.5×5”.
Barrel Length: 28” Tapered Octagonal
Sights / Optics: The front sight is a Rocky Mountain Front Sight dovetailed to the front of the barrel. The rear sight is a “U”-notch semi-buckhorn sight dovetailed to the rear of the barrel. The rear of the barrel and the chamber ring are drilled and tapped with a Leupold STD mount attached holding a Leupold Vari-X 3 LPVO scope with a simple duplex reticle. The sight picture is very clear, the ¼ MOA turrets adjust with a positive click. The scope has a few nicks in the finish. Overall the scope is in Fine to Very Fine condition.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The furniture is a two-piece checkered walnut with schnabel forend, straight hand grip, fluted straight comb, and a Browning rubber buttpad with two sling studs. The checkering is sharp. The forend has a few small depressions, a rub mark on the left side of the nose, a notable scratch on the left side near the receiver, and a scratch near the rear screw escutcheon. The stock shows some faint surface lines and a notable rub mark on the left near the rear of the comb. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures 13.5” from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The buttpad has some minor wear. Overall, the stocks are in Very Good to Fine condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 9/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 99% of its metal finish. The lever shows some faint lines, the receiver has a notable scratch on the right side, the barrel has several nicks and a small patch of rust freckling towards the muzzle on the bottom of the barrel. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle is in Fine to Very Fine condition.
Mechanics: The action works correctly. The trigger breaks crisply and the lever locks-up solidly. We have not fired this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
