Our Assessment: The Browning Model 12 in 28 gauge is a highly regarded reproduction of the classic Winchester Model 12, one of the most beloved and respected pump-action shotguns in American firearms history. Manufactured by Miroku in Japan under Browning’s guidance, this model was introduced as part of a limited production run, designed to cater to both collectors and enthusiasts of fine shotguns. The decision to produce a 28 gauge variant was driven by the desire to offer a lighter, more manageable option that still maintained the legendary performance and aesthetic appeal of the original Model 12.
The Browning Model 12 in 28GA features the exquisite craftsmanship and attention to detail that Miroku is known for. From the precision of its mechanical components to the finish of its metal and wood, every aspect of this shotgun reflects a commitment to quality. The use of high-grade walnut for the stock and fore-end, combined with the gun’s overall balance and ergonomics, offers shooters an exceptional handling experience. The 28 gauge chambering is particularly appreciated by those seeking a softer recoil and the challenge of hitting targets with a smaller shot pattern, making it an excellent choice for upland bird hunting and clay target sports.
Collectors value the Browning Model 12 in 28 gauge for its historical significance, as it pays homage to the Winchester legacy while providing an opportunity to own a piece of that history in a gauge that offers a unique shooting experience. For enthusiasts, the joy of shooting a well-crafted, smooth-operating pump-action shotgun that echoes the quality and tradition of a bygone era is unparalleled. Whether displayed in a collection or taken to the field, the Browning Model 12 in 28GA stands as a beautiful representation of shotgun heritage, marrying classic design with contemporary craftsmanship.
