Our Assessment: The Browning Citori 725 Field model in 28 gauge with 28-inch barrels is a refined over-and-under shotgun designed for hunting and sport shooting enthusiasts who appreciate a blend of classic aesthetics, modern engineering, and exceptional handling characteristics. The 725 series represents a continuation of Browning’s long-standing tradition of crafting high-quality shotguns, known for their reliability, performance, and elegant design. The 28 gauge is often favored by shooters for its lighter recoil and the enjoyment it brings in both upland bird hunting and clay shooting sports. Though smaller than the more common 12 or 20 gauge options, the 28 gauge provides ample capability for hunting game birds like quail, grouse, and pheasant, as well as offering a rewarding experience in skeet or sporting clays. It strikes a balance between challenge and effectiveness, making it popular among seasoned shooters who appreciate the finesse required to master it. The 725 Field model is distinguished by its low-profile receiver, which contributes to a more direct line of sight down the barrels and reduces the perceived bulk of the gun. This lower profile improves the shotgun’s balance and handling, making it quick to shoulder and swing on fast-moving targets—a critical feature when hunting or shooting clays. The receiver is crafted from high-grade steel, ensuring durability and longevity, while maintaining the elegant aesthetic with fine engraving and a coin finish. The 28-inch barrels on this model offer an excellent combination of length and weight distribution, enhancing both the pointability and follow-through required for effective shooting. The barrels are fitted with Browning’s Invector choke system, which provides versatility by allowing the shooter to easily change chokes to suit different types of shooting, from open patterns for close-range shots to tighter chokes for longer distances.  Ergonomically, the 725 Field features a well-crafted stock made from high-grade walnut. The stock design includes a comfortable, traditional recoil pad that helps to mitigate felt recoil, which is already mild in the 28 gauge. Mechanically, the Citori 725 is known for its smooth, crisp trigger pull, which enhances accuracy and shooter confidence. The gun also features a top-tang safety with a barrel selector, allowing the shooter to quickly and easily choose which barrel fires first, providing flexibility in various shooting situations. Overall, the Browning Citori 725 Field is a superbly crafted shotgun that excels in both aesthetics and performance. Whether in the field pursuing game birds or on the range breaking clays, this shotgun embodies the elegance and precision that Browning shotguns are renowned for, making it a prized addition to any shooter’s collection.
