Our Assessment: The Browning B-92 Centennial is a special edition commemorating the 100 year anniversary of the Browning designed Model 1878, produced in 1978 by Miroku in Japan. Built on the proven Model 1892 pattern, itself a John Moses Browning design, the B-92 combines classic lever action mechanics with high quality modern manufacturing. The Centennial variant features engraved receiver panels and commemorative markings, setting it apart from standard production rifles. Chambered in .44 Remington Magnum, a cartridge introduced in 1955, the rifle also accommodates .44 Special, offering a versatile range of performance in a compact lever action platform. This example retains approximately 99 percent of its original blued finish, with only faint handling marks and light scratches visible throughout. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and rates 9.5 out of 10, showing only light fouling. The walnut stock set remains in Very Good condition, with light handling marks and pressure dents but no structural damage. The engraved receiver remains crisp, and the saddle ring adds to the rifle’s classic profile. The buttplate shows minor spots of rust and pitting, while the remainder of the metal surfaces remain clean. Markings are clear and well defined, with sharp screw heads and proper mechanical function. The rifle includes its original box, enhancing its overall presentation.
The B-92 platform is known for its smooth action, compact design, and excellent craftsmanship, making it one of the most desirable modern reproductions of the Winchester 1892. The Centennial edition adds collectible appeal through its commemorative engraving and markings while retaining full functionality. This example stands as a well preserved and visually appealing rifle, combining historical tribute, strong condition, and the enduring performance of a classic lever action design. -R.E.
