Our Assessment: The Browning High Power Olympian Grade represents the pinnacle of Browning’s postwar sporting-rifle line, combining a finely made Mauser-pattern action with extensive hand engraving and exhibition-grade walnut. This 1961 example is chambered in .30-06 Springfield and features a 22″ barrel, internal box magazine, carved and checkered Grade 4 walnut stock, and a Leupold Vari-X II 3-9×40 scope. The engraving is signed by Jose Baerten, Lilly Lambert, and R. Risak, adding notable artisan provenance to an already prestigious rifle.

The Olympian Grade was Browning’s highest-grade bolt-action offering and was produced in limited numbers for collectors and sportsmen seeking both mechanical quality and fine embellishment. Built during the Belgian era of Browning sporting arms, these rifles were individually engraved and stocked with select walnut, placing them among the most desirable factory sporting rifles of the period. In .30-06 Springfield, the Olympian Grade combines broad hunting versatility with the craftsmanship and artistry expected from Browning’s top-tier presentation arms.

This rifle retains about 98% of its original finish, with only light handling and operational wear. The carved Grade 4 walnut stock remains in Excellent condition with a few light scratches and small finish chips but no cracks, while the bright bore has sharp rifling and rates 9.5/10. The action functions correctly, and the included Leupold scope and factory hard case further enhance the package. Overall, this is an Excellent Browning Olympian Grade with exceptional craftsmanship, strong originality, and outstanding collector appeal.
