Markings: The left side of the top barrel is marked “BROWNING ARMS COMPANY MORGAN, UTAH & MONTREAL P.Q. / MADE IN JAPAN”. The right side of the top barrel is marked “SPECIAL STEEL 28GA-2 ¾”. The left side of the bottom barrel is marked “38956”, the bottom of the bottom barrel is marked with four proof marks. The left side of the barrels near the ejectors is marked “INVECTOR / 28” / M”. The inside of the forearm metal is marked “38956”. The top tang is marked “38956NVVE3”. The receiver is Gold engraved of a game bird transforming into a clay target.

Choke: Skeet/Skeet, Invector Choke System. Also included are two modified chokes and a Full choke.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a white dot at the muzzle with a white mid bead on top of a serrated and ventilated rib.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two piece checkered wood with pistol grip, a grooved, widened forearm, straight comb, and a ventilated Browning recoil pad. The wood shows infrequently dispersed tiny compressions, draglines, and a few faint scratches. The checkering is sharp. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures 14 ¼” from the front of the trigger to the back of the Browning buttpad. The buttpad has hardened with age. The drop at the comb measures 1 1/2” with a drop at the heel measuring 1 3/4”. The cast is slightly off. This stock rates in about Fine overall condition.

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bores are bright. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, the bores rate 10/10.

Overall Condition: This shotgun rates in about 98% of its metal finish remaining. There is light finish loss on the barrel where the wood meets metal and some scattered faint marks on the barrel set. There are no other signs of significant wear or damage. The checkering on the trigger is sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this shotgun rates in about Fine-Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The lock up is tight yet smooth. We have not fired this shotgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This shotgun comes in its original serial matching box with paperwork including the manual and the previously mentioned chookes. A Pachmayr hard case is also included.

Our Assessment: Browning Citori shotguns are extremely dependable and make for great investments. This example is a Citori Gold Special Skeet with 28” barrels threaded for Invector chokes and chambered for 28 gauge 2 ¾ inch shells. It has bright bores and a tight lockup.
