Markings: The barrel is marked, “B-S/S SPECIAL STEEL12GA SHELLS 2-¾” AND 3” / BROWNING ARMS COMPANY MORGAN UTAH & MONTREAL P.Q. / ASSEMBLED IN KOREA WITH JAPANESE COMPONENTS” the underside of the barrels is marked, “02313” with nitro proofing and marked as “26”” The forend is marked, “02313RN158” The box action has an “H” proof mark. There is engraving on the frame and barrel.

Sights/Optics: There is a brass bead at the front of the barrel rib.
Stock Configuration and Condition: The stocks are two-piece checkered wood with beavertail forend, straight grip, straight comb, and soft rubber buttplate. The buttstock has a multitude of light scratches and pressure dents. The forend has light pressure dents. The LOP measures 14.5” from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttpad. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the stocks rate in Very Good – Fine condition given the age.

Bore Condition: Both bores are bright with no erosion. In this writer’s opinion the bores rate at a 9/10.
Overall Condition: This shotgun retains about 98% of its metal finish. There is some wear on the sides of the barrel and under on the trigger guard. The frame has turned to plum. The screw heads are sharp and the markings are clear. Overall, this shotgun rates in Very Good – Fine condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The lock up is tight with no play. We have not fired this shotgun. As with all used firearms, thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: The Browning BSS (Browning Side by Side) is a classic double-barreled shotgun manufactured by Browning Arms Company. Produced from 1978 to 1987, the BSS was designed as a side-by-side shotgun for hunting and shooting sports enthusiasts. It features a timeless boxlock action and is renowned for its reliability and elegant craftsmanship.
Chambered in 12 gauge, the BSS handles a wide range of loads, making it suitable for various hunting and shooting applications. This particular Browning BSS has been modified into a Coach Gun.
