Markings: The left side of the receiver is marked “FABRIQUE NATIONALE D’ARMES DE GUERRE HERSTAL BELGIQUE” with “BROWNING’S PATENT DEPOSE.” The barrel is marked “BROWNING ARMS COMPANY OGDEN UTAH” and “12 GA SPECIAL STEEL.” The barrel is also marked “MADE IN BELGIUM.” The serial number “153063 / FN” is stamped on the bottom of the receiver.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a brass bead mounted on the ventilated rib, and a metallic mid bead. The top of the rib is serrated to reduce glare while aiming.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is in a 2 piece wood configuration featuring a fluted straight comb, ventilated rubber buttpad, checkered prince of whales grip and checkered forend. The LOP is 14.5” from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttpad. There are light scratches present in the stock. The inside of the forearm is split. The stock rates in Good overall condition.

Finish Originality: Refinished
Bore Condition: The bore is bright. There is no visible erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 10/10.
Overall Condition: This shotgun retains about 95% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows operational wear, including thinning at the receiver and barrel, edge wear, and scattered light freckling. The screw heads are lightly tooled but serviceable. The markings are legible. Overall, this shotgun rates in about Very Good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this shotgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: The Browning Auto-5, designed by John Moses Browning, was the world’s first successful semi-automatic shotgun. Manufactured by FN in Belgium, the Auto-5 was renowned for its durability, long recoil operation, and distinctive humpback profile, which aided in quick target acquisition.
This particular example, made in Belgium, retains much of its original finish and remains mechanically sound. Its classic long-recoil action delivers a smooth shooting experience, making it a favorite among collectors and sportsmen alike.
