Our Assessment: The Walther TPH in .22LR is a compact, semi-automatic pistol well-known for its lightweight design and ease of concealability, making it a favored choice for personal defense and discreet carry. Designed by the German firearms manufacturer Walther, the TPH, or Taschen Pistole Hahn, which translates to “Pocket Pistol Hammer,” was originally introduced in the late 1960s as a modern successor to the earlier Walther TP model. The Walther TPH stands out for its small size and sleek, compact profile, ideal for users needing a highly concealable pistol. With a single-action/double-action trigger mechanism, it offers flexibility for users who value quick follow-up shots. Its 2.8-inch barrel and overall length of around 5.3 inches give it a compact build while providing reasonable accuracy at close ranges. The .22LR caliber is manageable, with low recoil making it easy for various shooters to handle, and the pistol can hold six rounds in its magazine, giving it a reasonable capacity for a small-framed gun. While it is known for its reliability, the TPH can be sensitive to certain types of ammunition due to its blowback action and small size, often requiring high-quality, consistent rounds for optimal performance.

Overall, the Walther TPH has its place in Walther’s lineup of classic pocket pistols. Its elegant design, historical significance as one of the last designs Walter created specifically for discreet carry, and connection to the German brand make it a sought-after model in good condition. It remains a notable example of Walther’s commitment to quality craftsmanship and innovation in the realm of compact firearms. -R.E.
