Our Assessment: The incredible Beretta SO9 Over-and-Unders represent a melding of the world’s most popular gauges (12, 20, 28 and.410) with the world’s most sought-after-engraving…all brought together in the foremost example of the Beretta Premium Grade. The true sidelock actions and receivers of each of the four available SO9 models are specific and proportioned to each gauge, matching the gauge’s mechanical and ballistic requirements. The result of the design is a perfectly balanced and superior functioning shotgun that will provide flawless performance for generations. The SO9 has a unique advanced locking system with a double longitudinal bolt that engages internal Monobloc lugs in the receiver body which are positioned above the upper barrel axis to minimize stress when firing. The fully functional locks are mounted on pins machined into the side plates eliminating the need for through pins, enhancing the aesthetic quality of the receiver, this feature is exclusive to the S09. The barrels are cold hammer-forged from blanks of Boehler Antinit steel assuring exceptional strength, light weight and corrosion resistance. The stocks are crafted out of beautifully figured European walnut burl and are hand checkered and oil-finished. A master engraver then turns the metal parts into his canvas and expertly engraves scroll, game scenes, a mixture of both, or custom engraving depending on what the purchaser orders resulting in a one of one shotgun. The engraving is truly masterful, upon looking at the work you will be blown away. One can almost see the flutter of the birds wings, the sway of the grass, the subtle clouds in the sky, and feel the bark on the trees perfectly painting a game scene that makes you feel like you are in the field. This is truly a beautiful shotgun, a true crown jewel heirloom piece waiting for a spot in your collection. Please see our photos and good luck!
