Markings: The upper tang is marked “L33656B”. The left and right side of the receiver is marked “P.BERETTA”. The bottom of the receiver is marked “MADE IN ITALY P.BERETTA GARDONE V.T. 686 Onyx”. The left side of the top barrel is marked “12 GA. 3” MAGNUM – 28″ P.BERETTA – GARDONE V.T.-ITALY-”. The right side of the top barrel is marked “BERETTA USA CORP.. ACKK, MD”. The forend iron is marked “33656”. The water table has several proofs. The bottom of the monoblock is marked “L33656B”. Under the forend is marked “EXCELSIOR – HIGH STRENGTH ALLOYED STEEL” more proofs and the date code “BC”.

Choke: The barrels are threaded for Mobil chokes. Currently installed with Cylinder Over Modified. Also Includes Full and Two SKEET chokes. 5 chokes total.
Sights / Optics: The front sight is a red fiber optic bead sight, there is a small silver mid bead present as well. The top of the rib is finely checkered for reducing glare.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The furniture set is a two piece checkered wood set. The stock is a checkered capped semi-pistol grip, fluted straight comb stock with rubber butt pad. The forend is a checkered forend with a full length finger shelf. The length of pull is 14.5″. The drop at comb is 1.5″ the drop at heel is 2.25″. There is a slight right handed cast. The shotgun weighs 7lbs 3oz. The wood shows scattered surface level lines, small scratches and minor compressions. There are no chips or cracks. There is a notable marr on the face of the grip. The butt pad is pliable showing some minor wear. Overall the wood is in about Very Good condition.

Bore Condition: The smooth bores are mirror bright. There is no erosion in the bores. The bores show some plastic fouling in the forcing cones with some lines from use. In this writer’s opinion the bores rate 9.25/10.
Overall Condition: This shotgun retains 98% of its metal finish. The edges of the receiver show some very minor finish thinning. The block and lower barrel show some rub wear that is concealed when assembled. The barrels have some scattered minor marks. There are a few spots on the edges of the rib that are missing finish. The forend iron, the receiver and some of the checkering in the rib show small surface rust freckles. The upper tang shows some rub wear from the safety. The markings are clear, the screw heads sharp and the pins un-marred. Overall the shotgun is in about Very Good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly including ejectors. The action locks up tight with no play. The safety does set automatically after firing. We have not fired this shotgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This shotgun includes the five chokes, a small container for the chokes, and a Beretta zippered case.
Our Assessment: This Beretta 686 Onyx was manufactured in 1993 and is an excellent example of one of Beretta’s most successful over-under sporting shotguns. Chambered in 12 gauge with 3-inch chambers, it features 28-inch barrels threaded for the Beretta Mobil choke system, allowing the shooter to tailor patterns for everything from upland hunting to sporting clays and skeet.
