Our Assessment: The Beretta BM59 Model 62 is a civilian, semi-automatic version of the original military BM59, resembling its selective-fire counterpart but tailored for non-military use. Unlike the military models, which typically feature 19.3-inch barrels and selective fire capabilities, the Model 62 is configured with a shorter 17.5-inch barrel similar to a Springfield Squad Scout and is limited to semi-automatic operation. This variant retains many of the distinctive characteristics of the BM59 series, including the robust M1 Garand-based action but with a 20-round detachable magazine in 7.62x51mm NATO. The BM59 Model 62 has gained recognition among collectors and enthusiasts for preserving the rugged aesthetics and design elements of the BM59 family, while also offering a unique piece of Cold War-era firearm history in a civilian-friendly configuration. This rifle is in amazing shape for its age and will make a great addition to any cold war era, m1a or Garand collection. Remember there were only about 2000 BM 62s rifles ever produced.
