Our Assessment: The Benelli M1 Super 90 is a landmark semi-automatic shotgun that helped establish Benelli’s reputation for reliability and innovation in the American market. Introduced in the late 20th century, the M1 utilizes Benelli’s inertia-driven operating system, a design that departs from traditional gas operation in favor of a simpler, cleaner cycling method. By 2001, the M1 Super 90 had become widely respected among hunters and sport shooters for its durability, ease of maintenance, and consistent performance in a variety of conditions, particularly in adverse weather where simpler systems often excel.
Chambered for 2 3/4″ and 3″ 12 gauge shells, this shotgun offers versatility across a wide range of field applications, from upland game to waterfowl hunting. The 26″ barrel provides a balanced swing and effective patterning, while the Mobil choke system allows for adjustment based on shooting needs. The inertia-driven action contributes to reduced fouling in the operating system and dependable cycling with appropriate loads, making it a practical choice for extended use in the field.
This example presents in good to very good condition, retaining approximately 90% of its original Realtree camo finish with moderate wear along leading edges and handling surfaces. The polymer stock shows expected field wear but remains structurally sound, and the bore is bright with only light plastic fouling. The action functions correctly, and the shotgun includes its factory accessories such as the case, shim set, and manual. Overall, this M1 Super 90 reflects honest use while maintaining the core reliability and performance characteristics that define the model.
