The length of pull is 15″, the drop at comb is 1.5″ and the drop at heel is 2.25″. The shotgun weighs 7lbs 13oz. The wood has been refinished as a result it shows only light compressions and minor scattered marks. There are open grain lines coming from the rear edge of the upper tang. There are no chips or cracks. The butt pad is soft and pliable showing almost no wear. Overall the furniture is in Very Good+-Excellent condition as refinished.

Bore Condition: The smooth bores are bright showing no erosion. The top bore shows some minor lines from use and barely visible plastic fouling. The lower barrel shows some minor lines from use and plastic fouling in the forcing cone. It appears the lower barrel was primarily used. In this writer’s opinion the bores rate 9/10.

Overall Condition:  This shotgun retains about 96% of its metal finish. The barrels retain almost all of their finish but the lower barrel shows the signature rub mark. The upper tang shows the signature rub mark from the safety.  The inside of the action shows rub wear. The forend lever shows some surface rust developing. The markings are clear and the pins un-marred. The screw heads show light tool marks. Overall, this shotgun is in about Very Good-Very Good+ condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly including the ejectors. The shotgun features a single selective inertial trigger that functions correctly. The forend is the Browning Non removable style forend. There is zero movement between the barrels and frame. The safety does NOT set automatically when the action is opened but functions properly when manually set. We have not fired this shotgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: Includes a Browning luggage style case, keys, and lubricant.

Our Assessment: The Browning Superposed is a classic over-and-under shotgun renowned for its elegant design, reliable performance, and exceptional craftsmanship. Manufactured in Belgium, the Superposed has earned a reputation as one of the finest shotguns ever produced. Introduced by John Moses Browning, one of the most prolific firearms designers in history, the Superposed marked the culmination of Browning’s career, being the last gun he worked on and the first commercially successful over-under shotgun. This specific model of the Browning Superposed is a 12 gauge with 28″ barrels, representing a versatile option suitable for a variety of shooting activities, including hunting, clay shooting, and sport shooting. They promote balanced weight and a smooth swing, making it particularly well-suited for shooting targets at mid to longer ranges. The fixed chokes, Full over Modified, provide a balance of tight constriction for the full choke barrel and slightly less constriction for the Modified barrel. This choke combination offers versatility, allowing the shotgun to effectively handle different types of shooting scenarios, from mid-range bird hunting to longer-range trap or sporting clays shooting. Manufactured in 1958, this particular Browning Superposed reflects the craftsmanship and attention to detail characteristic of Belgian-made firearms from that era. The shotgun features high-quality walnut wood furniture with finely checkered patterns, adding to its aesthetic appeal and providing a comfortable and secure grip for the shooter. The Browning Superposed is known for its robust construction and smooth operation. Its boxlock action design ensures durability and reliability. This model also features a unique take down method. By unlocking and sliding the forend forward on the lower barrel this allows the shooted to take down the shotgun without the handguard coming loose or falling, a very appealing feature while in the field. Overall, this Browning Superposed represents a classic example of Belgian gunmaking excellence. With its timeless design, versatile choke configuration, and proven performance, it continues to be highly sought after by discerning shooters and collectors alike.
