Our Assessment: The Yugoslav M76 is a semi-automatic sniper rifle that was developed and produced in Yugoslavia during the 1970s. It was designed as a designated marksman rifle and intended for use by the Yugoslav People’s Army (JNA).
The development of the M76 began in the late 1960s, with the aim of creating a rifle that would provide increased accuracy and effective range compared to the standard issue Yugoslav M70 rifle. The M76 was designed to fire the 7.92x57mm Mauser cartridge, which was widely available in Yugoslavia at the time.
The rifle features a gas-operated system with a rotating bolt, and it has a detachable box magazine with a capacity of 10 rounds. The M76 was fitted with a longer barrel and a muzzle brake to help reduce recoil and improve accuracy.
The Yugoslav M76 was adopted by the JNA in 1976 and became the standard issue designated marksman rifle for Yugoslav forces. It saw significant use during the Yugoslav Wars of the 1990s, particularly in the hands of Bosnian Serb and Croatian Serb forces.
The M76 is known for its reliability and accuracy, although its effectiveness at longer ranges is somewhat limited due to the use of the 7.92x57mm Mauser cartridge, which has a lower muzzle velocity compared to some other sniper rifle calibers. Nevertheless, it performed well in its intended role as a designated marksman rifle and was widely used by Yugoslav and later post-Yugoslav armed forces.
The production of the M76 ceased with the dissolution of Yugoslavia in the early 1990s. However, the rifle remains in service with various military and paramilitary units in the Balkans and has also gained popularity among firearms enthusiasts and collectors worldwide.
This Yugo M76 from Assault Weapons of Ohio is a beautiful M76 built on a modern milled receiver. This rifle comes with an original M76 First Iteration Scope and a total of 5 magazines which makes this a collector’s dream. Everything is in Excellent condition and
