The rear sight is a square notch adjustable for windage and elevation in a base pinned to the top strap. The top of the rib and topstrap are matte finished for glare reduction.
Stock Configuration and Condition: The grips are two-piece laminate wood, laser-carved with matching relief scroll and lattice, with silver-colored Colt medallions at their tops. The grips have no notable wear or damage, only light handling marks. The checkering is well defined. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the grips are in Excellent condition.
Type of Finish: Stainless Steel
Finish Originality: Original
Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore, but there is some stubborn copper fouling, mostly on the lands. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates about 9 out of 10.
Overall Condition: This revolver retains about 99% of its finish. There is no notable wear or damage, only light handling marks. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this gun rates in Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The lock-up on this revolver has no play on each chamber when the trigger is depressed. The trigger is smooth in double action, and crisp in single action. We have not fired this revolver. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork, and Accessories: This revolver comes in a blue plastic Colt case with matching label, manual, and a cable lock.
Our Assessment: In 1955, the United States launched the first nuclear powered submarine, West Germany joined NATO, and Colt began shipping the finest precision combat and target revolver ever made. Each revolver was hand-tuned at the factory and this attention to detail shows both cosmetically and in operation. With barrel lengths ranging from 2.5” to 8” and with some of the finest machining and finishing ever seen in the industry, the Python has earned its reputation and continues to be sought after to this day. The original Colt Python revolvers were made for 50 years before being discontinued, but were reintroduced in 2020, now being made in 3″, 4.25″and 6″models, all constructed with stainless steel.
This 6″ example has been custom-engraved by Altamont in their “Royal Chateau” style. The deep relief engraving features neoclassical scroll and lattice patterns. It will make for a nice Python you can add to your collection, but would also serve well as a classy BBQ gun. The gun is in Excellent condition and comes with its original box, appearing to have spent more time in than out. Please see our pictures and good luck!
