Markings: The left side of the receiver is marked “L8439”, “MAUSER CHILENO MODELO 1895”, and “DEUTSCHE WAFFEN – UND MUNITIONSFABRIKEN BERLIN” The left side of the barrel shank is marked “L8439”. The left side of the bolt sleeve is marked “39”. The bolt handle is marked, “L8439” The bottom of the magazine floor plate is marked “39”. The front of the trigger guard assembly is marked “L8439”. The left side of the stock below the receiver is faintly marked “L8439”. There are various small proof and acceptance marks throughout. The stock is marked, “L8439” with a Star of David.
Barrel Length: Approximately 29”
Sights / Optics: The front sight is a delta set atop a raised block. The rear sight is a V-notch ladder sight marked out to 20.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The wood stock has a capped forend, straight grip, two sling loops, straight comb, and a steel buttplate. There are compression marks, scuffs, and scratches throughout the wood. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures 13.5” from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The stock rates in at about Excellent overall condition.
Type of Finish: Blued
Finish Originality: Original.
Bore Condition: The bore is light gray and the rifling is lightly worn. There is light erosion throughout the bore. In this writer’s opinion, this bore rates 7.5/10.
Many military and C&R eligible weapons have bores that will show erosion. This is not only due to age but to the fact that corrosive primers were commonly used in ammunition worldwide. For example, the U.S. used corrosive ammunition throughout WWII. The U.S. military did not begin to phase out corrosive-primed ammunition until the 1950s.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 97% of its metal finish. There is light thinning on all the leading edges. There are small nicks throughout. There is light action wear. The screw heads are sharp, the markings are clear. Overall, this rifle rates in about Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: The Chilean Mauser Model 1895, built by Ludwig Loewe and later DWM in Berlin was a finely made mauser for the Chilean military. This rifle retains its original royal bluing and stock finish including the small stamp proofings. There is minimal wear throughout, and the action functions flawlessly. It is amazing how well preserved this rifle is. The markings and crest on the receiver are sharp and the rifle has all matching serials throughout.
Overall, this Chilean 1895 Mauser chambered in 7x57mm with its full length barrel and original finish would fit into any Mauser enthusiasts collection. Please see our photos. Please see the photos for more information, and good luck on your bid! -R.E.
