Akai Custom Guns Phoenix Trinity 2011 Open .40 S&W Semi-Auto Pistol

SOLD FOR: $2500.99

LSB#: 230114GG004

Make: Akai Custom on Phoenix Trinity Frame

Model: Akai Limited 2011, now Customized to an Open division gun.

Serial Number: PT0334

Year of Manufacture: Akai built the gun late 2000s early 2010s, we do not know when it was converted to an open gun.

Caliber: .40 S&W

Action Type: Single Action Semi-Automatic Pistol with Removable Magazine

Markings: The bottom of the frame is marked “PHOENIX TRINITY / DAYTON, OHIO” and “Akai Custom Guns / Sunrise, Florida”. The right side of the frame is marked with the serial number and “PT”. The top of the chamber is marked “BAR STO .40 S&W”. The magazine well is marked with the Dawson Ice logo. The right side of the scope mount has a Weigand logo.

Barrel Length: 5 1/4? Barsto barrel with Permanently attached compensator. 7″ to Compensator.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blade with a red fiber optic insert and is dovetailed into the slide. The rear sight has been removed. The frame has been installed with a Weigand rail which secures an Aimpoint Micro T-2 2 MOA red dot. The sight has no major defects and functions properly, it is in Excellent condition.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grip is textured black polymer with a stippled pattern. The trigger guard has a double undercut. There are some light handling marks. The texturing is very aggressive and produces great grip, there are even some little pieces of fuzz from a soft case this pistol was previously stored in. The grip rates in about Excellent condition.

Type of Finish: Matte Hard Chrome & Stainless

Finish Originality: Original to parts. Akai told us that he built the gun as a Limited gun but he did not install the compensator, rail, or slide racker. The barrel is likely original to the customization and not the Akai build.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion. In my opinion, this bore is a 10 out of 10.

Overall Condition: This pistol retains about 98% of its metal finish. There are some light handling marks. The magazine well has some scattered nicks and marks from normal use. There is standard operational wear. The screwheads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this pistol rates in about Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The pistol is stroked. The slide racker is not removable. The grip safety is deactivated but not pinned. This pistol has an ambidextrous extended thumb safety, adjustable flat skeletonized trigger, full-length guide rod, skeletonized hammer, the grip safety has a rise to index one’s palm correctly each time. The slide and frame have superb mating. The action works correctly. We did not fire this pistol. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: Included is the previously described Aimpoint and one STI 126mm 10-round magazine.

Our Assessment: The 1911 and 1911-A1 pistols served the military of the United States from 1911 to 1985, through two World Wars and the Korean and Vietnam wars. They gained a reputation as a reliable handgun with plenty of stopping power, and are held in high regard by those who have used them. The design is one of the most beloved and has gone through many design changes such as modular double stack frames, accessory rails, and optic provisions like this 2011. It was built by Akai Custom Guns, one of the top dogs in the custom 2011 field and an OG in the field. This one was built by Shay Akai as a Limited gun in the late 2000s to early 2010s and at some point, the rail, compensator, and slide racker were added when a previous owner decided it was time to swim with the sharks and compete in the Open division. The build quality is top notch, the slide is smooth like silk, the trigger is crisp and has a nice reset. The Akai Standard is simple: “Every firearm should be treated as if we, ourselves, have to shoot it at a match this evening and a national championship is on the line”. This one has seen some use but is still in Fine-Excellent condition, if you’re looking for a pistol to shoot in the USPSA or Steel Challenge Open division, drop a bid today! Please see our photos and good luck!

Some are hot, some are not, but thankfully most can be shot!
