Action Type: Hammerless Boxlock Side-by-Side Break-Action Double-Barrel Shotgun with Double Triggers. 

Barrel Length: 30”

Choke:  Fixed.  Right:  Full. Left:  Full. 

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a silver bead affixed to the wavy rib. 

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks two piece hand checkered wood with straight comb, rubber buttpad, and checkered forend. The stock has a moderate amount of wear. There are scratches and compression marks. There are no chips. There is a crack on the wrist expanding from the upper tang. The checkering is worn. The LOP measures 12” and 13.25” from the front of the triggers respectively to the rear back of the buttpad. The stocks rate in about Very Good overall condition.  

Type of Finish: Blue, Case Colored

Finish Originality: Original.

Bore Condition: The bores are bright. There is no erosion in the bore. There is fouling down the length of the bore. In this writer’s opinion the bores rate about 8 out of 10. 

Overall Condition:  This shotgun retains about 65% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows handling and storage wear. There are scratches and thinning throughout. The case color is in the white. The blue on the barrel is thinning and turned to a patina in areas. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this shotgun rates in about Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We have not fired this shotgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: The A.H. Fox Sterlingworth was introduced in 1910 as the company’s affordable field-grade double, retaining Fox’s strong hammerless boxlock action and traditional double-trigger configuration. As cataloged, this 12-gauge example features 30″ barrels, fixed Full chokes in both barrels, and a classic long-barreled sporting configuration suited to field and waterfowl use. The model, serial number, and manufacture date should be reconciled before publication, as detailed below.

This shotgun is in about Good condition overall and retains about 65% of its original blued and case-colored finish, with scratches, thinning, patina, and loss of case color to bare metal. The two-piece checkered wood stocks show moderate wear, scratches, compression marks, worn checkering, and a crack extending from the upper tang through the wrist. The bores are bright with no erosion and fouling along their length; in this writer’s opinion, the bores rate 8 out of 10. The action functions correctly.
