Receiver Leg: “A 39B 4” and “D 6528291 43” left side “D” –(Springfield).

Barrel:”A”  “SA D6535448”, “3 53 A191B”, “P” overstamped “ordnance stamp” -(Springfield).

The stock and sights are described below.

 

Barrel Length: Approximately 24 Inches

 

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blade set between two protective wings. The rear sight is a fully adjustable aperture sight set between two protective wings. The windage knob is marked “LEFT arrow” twice and “DRC”. The elevation knob is marked from “2-12” in increments of 2 and “IHC, diamond”. 

Stock Configuration & Condition: The hardwood stock has a pistol grip, metal nose caps, a stacking loop, two sling loops and a metal buttplate with hinged door for storage in the butt. The left side is marked “A W” with “S.A./G.A.W.”, “large-wheel ordnance escutcheon”. The front of the grip is stamped with two “P” stamps. One appears to be the firing proof stamp from 1943. The second one looks to be done when refinishing the stock.  The wood shows scuffs & dings all over the wood. There is a ding on the upper hand guard above the Op Rod. There is a scrape on the upper right side of the grip. There is a ding on the right side of the stock. The LOP measures 13 inches from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The buttplate is in very good condition. The stock rates are about Good overall condition.

 

Type of Finish: Parkerized

 

Finish Originality: Original

 

Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright. The rifling looks sharp. The grooves show bits of fouling in them. Near the bore there appears to be copper fouling.The bore shows an M.E. of 1.5. The throat shows a T.E. of 4.0.

 

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 94% of its metal finish. The metal shows scuffs & handling marks. The markings are deep. Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good-plus condition.

 

Mechanics: The action functions correctly.  We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle comes equipped with a green cloth sling. There appears to be subtle wear and discoloration in the sling. There is also a small amount of erosion on the buckle of the sling.

Assessment: The M1 Garand is a great choice for any gun owner. For those trying to have a piece of history in their hands. Those that want to feel the kick from a .30-06.
