Our Assessment: Winchester’s Model 70 has carried the title of the Rifleman’s Rifle since 1936, and the Safari Express is the version built for dangerous game. It uses the controlled round feed action with a full-length claw extractor, the feature hunters trust to keep a cartridge under control when a follow-up shot matters most, and adds two recoil crossbolts in the walnut, a barrel band front swivel, open sights and a Decelerator pad to handle heavy recoil. The .416 Remington Magnum, introduced by Remington in 1988, offers performance close to the classic .416 Rigby from a standard-length magnum action and has become a favorite for Cape buffalo, brown bear and other large, dangerous game.
This 2016 example is close to new, retaining about 99% of its original matte blue, with a bore that rates 9.5/10 and walnut that is free of chips and cracks. It comes wearing a Leupold VX-3i 1.5-5x20mm, a low-power scope well matched to close-range dangerous game work, while the iron sights remain as a backup. It is ready for a safari or a serious bear hunt. Please see our photo and good luck on your bid!
