Our Assessment: The Sako AV Classic is a refined Finnish sporting rifle built around Sako’s long action AV receiver, combining smooth bolt operation and traditional walnut-and-blue styling with the manufacturing quality for which Sako rifles are well regarded. Chambered in 6.5×55 Swedish with a 22″ barrel, this example pairs the AV action with a classic Scandinavian cartridge known for mild recoil, excellent sectional density, and a long history as both a sporting and hunting round. The gloss-finished checkered walnut stock, right-hand palm swell, Monte Carlo comb with cheekpiece, and grooved receiver give the rifle a distinctly traditional European sporting configuration.
This rifle is in Very Good to Fine condition overall, retaining about 96% of its original blue finish with only light dings on the trigger guard and a few small freckles of surface corrosion on the floorplate and underside of the barrel just forward of the forend. Otherwise, the bluing remains deep, dark, and intact. The checkered walnut stock also rates in Very Good to Fine condition with scattered light scratches and minor compressions, an intact gloss finish, attractive grain, and no chips or cracks. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and no erosion, rating 10/10, while the action and safety function correctly.
