Our Assessment: The .22-250 spent decades as a popular wildcat, often called the Varminter, before Remington adopted it as a factory cartridge in 1965. Its high velocity and flat trajectory quickly made it a standard for prairie dogs, coyotes and other varmints at long range. Chambered in the Model 700 BDL, it joined Remington’s classic dress rifle, with glossy walnut, a Monte Carlo cheekpiece, black forend cap and hinged floorplate on top of the round receiver, recessed bolt face and cone breech that made the 700 action an industry standard.
This 1981 Ilion example stands out for its attractively figured walnut. It retains about 98% of its original blue, the bore rates 9.5/10, the bolt serial matches the receiver, and the stock is free of chips and cracks. The drilled and tapped receiver is ready for the base and scope of your choice. Please see our photos and good luck on your bid! – L.S.
