Our Assessment: The FN FAL became one of the defining battle rifles of the Cold War, and Brazil adopted and manufactured the design domestically through IMBEL at Itajuba. Brazilian production retained the classic short-stroke gas system, tilting-bolt action, 20-round detachable magazine, and robust fixed-stock architecture that made the FAL famous worldwide. This example is built on a Brazilian IMBEL receiver and wears a traditional metric-pattern configuration with a full-length barrel, bipod-cut furniture, fixed stock, and standard military-style sights. The PAC-prefix receiver strongly suggests that the receiver was imported separately into the United States, making this best understood as an IMBEL-receiver FAL build rather than automatically as a complete factory-imported Brazilian rifle. This rifle remains in Very Good condition, retaining approximately 97% of its metal finish. The exterior shows scratches and small nicks throughout, while the action exhibits light operational wear. The screw heads remain sharp, the pins are unmarred, and the markings are clear. The black polymer furniture shows light handling wear and remains free of chips or cracks, rating in Very Good condition. The bore is bright with pronounced rifling and shows light erosion, rating 7/10 in this writer’s opinion. Mechanically, the action functions correctly.
For collectors and shooters interested in metric FALs, a rifle built on a genuine IMBEL receiver has strong appeal because Brazilian receivers are widely regarded as high-quality licensed FAL components. This example combines that desirable receiver with classic fixed-stock FAL furniture, a 20-round metric magazine, and the familiar full-length service-rifle layout. Its value is more configuration- and component-driven than factory-originality-driven if it is indeed a PAC-receiver build, but the strong finish, functional action, and authentic IMBEL receiver still make it an attractive representative of the metric FAL platform. -R.E.
