Our Assessment: The Canadian Inglis Hi-Power was produced during World War II after FN’s Belgian facilities became unavailable to the Allies, with John Inglis & Company in Toronto manufacturing the Browning design for Allied and Chinese contracts. The No.2 Mk.1* was the fixed-sight service version, distinguished from the tangent-sight No.1 pattern and intended as a straightforward military sidearm. This example retains the correct wartime configuration with fixed sights, black Bakelite checkered grip panels, 13-round magazines, matching serialized components, and original black enamel finish. This pistol remains in Very Good condition, retaining approximately 95% of its original finish. The leading edges show thinning and wear, with light scratches and nicks throughout and light operational wear to the action. The screw heads range from lightly to moderately tooled, the pins are mostly undamaged, and the markings remain largely clear despite some areas being softened by the enamel finish. The grips show scratches, handling wear, flattened checkering, and worn peaks but remain free of cracks, rating in Good condition. The bore is bright with sharp rifling, no notable erosion, and visible factory chatter marks, rating 9.5/10 in this writer’s opinion. Mechanically, the action functions correctly.

For collectors of WWII service pistols and Browning Hi-Power variants, the Inglis No.2 Mk.1* is a particularly desirable wartime production model with strong Canadian military significance. The matching components, original enamel finish, fixed-sight configuration, three magazines, and canvas flap holster all add to its appeal. The minor finish wear and grip handling marks are consistent with service use, leaving this as a very solid and representative example of the wartime Canadian Inglis Hi-Power. -R.E.
