Barrel Length: 44″

Stock Configuration & Condition: The musket wears a full-length wood stock with iron barrel bands, a steel buttplate and a steel button-head ramrod carried beneath the barrel. There are cracks on the buttstock extending from the buttplate, light chips along the lock, a crack on the right side of the forend and a crack extending from the trigger guard. The LOP measures 12.75″ from the front of the trigger to the rear of the buttplate. The stock is in Fair condition.

Type of Finish: Bare metal / Patina

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is dark with defined rifling, moderate erosion and light pitting. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 4/10.

Overall Condition: This musket shows no remaining finish, and the bare metal has toned to a brown patina with light surface oxidation and handling wear. The musket has been plugged and redrilled, and some small parts may have been changed. The stock shows the cracks and chips noted above. Overall, this musket is in Fair condition as an antique.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly and the cock holds at full cock. We have not fired this musket. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: Ramrod

Our Assessment: The Model 1795 was the first musket made at the new national armories, based closely on the French Model 1763 Charleville musket that had armed so many Continental soldiers during the Revolution. Springfield and Harpers Ferry built the pattern for roughly two decades, and Model 1795 muskets carried the U.S. Army through the War of 1812.

This example carries an eagle and “US / SPRINGFIELD” lock, a “US” barrel stamp and an “1811” marked buttplate, with a steel ramrod still in place. It has been plugged and redrilled and may have some replaced small parts. The bore shows defined rifling and rates 4/10, and the stock shows several cracks. It is a desirable early American martial flintlock from the War of 1812 era.
