Our Assessment: The Winchester Model 94 is one of the quintessential American lever-action rifles, and the Saddle Ring Carbine represents one of its most recognizable early configurations. Introduced during the black-powder era as the Model 1894, John Browning’s design quickly became closely associated with the .30 WCF cartridge after its introduction in 1895. Compact, fast-handling carbines such as this 1926 example became enduring fixtures in the American West, hunting camps, and ranch country.
This nearly century-old Saddle Ring Carbine retains a considerable amount of its original blue finish, with the balance displaying the honest finish loss, scratches, and patina expected from a rifle that has seen decades of use. Its stocks remain solid with no chips or cracks, the action functions correctly, and the bore retains sharp rifling despite its gray appearance. The desirable .30 WCF chambering, classic ladder rear sight, saddle ring configuration, and naturally aged finish give this Model 94 plenty of period character.
