Our Assessment: The Winchester Model 1894 became one of the defining American lever-action sporting rifles, and the .38-55 Winchester was one of its original chamberings. Already well established as both a hunting and target cartridge when the Model 1894 was introduced, the .38-55 remains closely associated with early Winchester sporting rifles. This 1923 example has the classic full-length rifle configuration with a 26″ round barrel, straight-grip stock, and steel crescent buttplate.
This Model 94 has been refinished, including both the metal surfaces and wood stocks, and retains about 90% of its refinish bluing. The rifle remains in Good overall condition as refinished, with a particularly strong bright bore and sharp rifling rating 9/10. The action functions correctly, and the rifle is fitted with a Marbles buckhorn rear sight. Its .38-55 chambering, 26″ rifle-length barrel, and traditional Winchester configuration make it a handsome representative of the classic Model 94 sporting rifle.
