Our Assessment: Colombia received approximately 1,000 FN-49 rifles in the smallest of the major national production contracts. Made in 1952-1953 and chambered in .30-06, these rifles formed a small, distinct part of FN’s postwar military production. This Colombian-contract example carries the low serial number 0008, with that number repeated on the barrel, receiver, receiver cover, bolt, and bolt carrier.
About 95% of the original metal finish remains, and the bright bore retains sharp rifling. The reproduction stock has rough finger-groove inletting and lacks the recoil lug, and the upper handguard has very minor cracks. These furniture details remain part of the rifle’s condition and originality, alongside its well-preserved metal assembly. Overall, this C&R rifle is in Very Good condition, with matching principal metal components from Colombia’s small FN-49 contract.
