Mechanics: The action functions correctly, as does the half-cock safety. There have been a few upgrades to this rifle, and those upgrades include – Aluminum Magazine Follower, Upgraded Trigger, and Cross-Bolt Safety delete. All of these upgrades were completed with parts from Wild West Gun’s. The original trigger, magazine follower, and safety are also included. We did not fire this rifle, but we did perform a mechanic’s check. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle comes with the original trigger, magazine follower, and safety as mentioned above.
Our Assessment: The Marlin Model 1895G is a compact big-bore lever-action rifle built around the proven 1895 action and chambered in .45-70 Government. This 2007 North Haven-produced example carries the desirable “JM” barrel stamp and features an 18.5″ barrel, checkered walnut furniture, factory iron sights, and the handy Guide Gun configuration that made the 1895G especially popular for hunting and heavy field use. This rifle has also been upgraded with Wild West Guns components, including an aluminum magazine follower, upgraded trigger, and cross-bolt safety delete, while the original parts are included with the rifle.
This rifle is in Fine condition overall, retaining about 98% of its original blue finish with only light operational marks on the hammer and bolt and a few minor hairline scratches on the receiver. The checkered walnut stocks remain in Fine to Excellent condition with only light compression marks, well-defined checkering, an intact finish, and no chips or cracks. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and no erosion, rating 10/10, while the action and half-cock safety function correctly. The inclusion of the original trigger, magazine follower, and cross-bolt safety components adds useful completeness and gives the next owner the option of returning the rifle closer to its original configuration.
