Markings: The top of the chamber is marked with the American Eagle. The front of the frame is marked “68544 / GERMANY”. The underside of the barrel is marked “68544”. The top of the forward toggle is marked “DWM” in script. The back of the rear toggle, the underside of the takedown lever, the underside of the left side plate, and the trigger are marked “44”. The underside of the both grip panels are unmarked. The bottom of the magazine is unmarked.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blade dovetailed to the barrel. The rear sight is a V-Notch integral to the slide.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The grip panels are checkered walnut. There is light handling wear. There are scratches and compression marks throughout. A few checkered peaks have chipped off. The checkering is sharp. There are no cracks. The grips rate in about Very Good overall condition.

Finish Originality: Refinished
Bore Condition: The bore is semi bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. There is light fouling in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates a 8 out of 10.
Overall Condition: This pistol retains about 95% of its blued finish. The balance of the finish shows handling and storage wear. There are scratches and thinning throughout. There are spots of light thinning on the leading edges and around the markings. The straw finish has thinned along the edges. There are light nicks on the barrel extension. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear and the American Eagle is sharp. Overall, this gun rates in about Very Good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this pistol. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: The DWM Model 1906 American Eagle was a commercial version of Georg Luger’s Parabellum pistol produced specifically for the American market before World War I. The improved Model 1906 incorporated the New Model action with coil mainspring and grip safety, while the .30 Luger variation used a 4.75″ barrel and prominently displayed the Great Seal of the United States over the chamber. Approximately 8,000 .30 Luger American Eagles were produced, with serial numbers generally falling between about 26500 and 69000. Serial number 68544 places this example very near the upper end of that range, making it a late-production example. The frame, barrel, and multiple small parts retain matching serial and “44” markings, while the “GERMANY” marking identifies it as a commercial export pistol intended for the American market.
This pistol retains approximately 95% of its refinished blue, straw, and fire-blue finish with scratches, scattered thinning, light edge wear, and several small nicks on the barrel extension. The checkered walnut grips remain in Very Good condition with light handling wear, scratches, compression marks, and a few chipped checkering peaks but no cracks. The bore is semi-bright with sharp rifling, no visible erosion, and light fouling, rating 8/10 in this writer’s opinion. The action functions correctly, though we did not fire this pistol.
