Our Assessment: Remington Rand was one of the principal manufacturers of the M1911A1 during World War II, producing pistols for the U.S. military from 1943 through the end of wartime production. Originally known for office equipment and typewriters, the company converted to wartime arms production and ultimately became the largest producer of M1911A1 pistols during World War II. This example was manufactured in 1944 and bears the desirable “FJA” inspection marking of Colonel Frank J. Atwood, whose inspection authority covered Remington Rand wartime pistol production.

This 1944 Remington Rand M1911A1 remains an attractive U.S. military sidearm with approximately 90% of its original Parkerized finish remaining, excellent brown checkered plastic grips, and a correctly functioning action. The frame and Remington Rand slide retain their appropriate wartime inspection and proof markings. The boxed “C” barrel is a later Colt replacement barrel, a type associated with postwar government replacement use, indicating that the pistol saw at least some maintenance or parts replacement during or after its military service. This is a very presentable example of one of the most recognizable American service pistols of World War II. Please see our photos for a better understanding of the condition and good luck with your bids!-C.M.
