Our Assessment: The Remington Nylon 76, also known as the Trail Rider, was introduced in 1962 as an unusual lever-action counterpart to Remington’s highly successful Nylon 66. It remains notable as the only lever-action rifle ever produced by Remington. Chambered exclusively in .22 LR, the Nylon 76 uses a short-throw locked-breech lever action, 14-round tubular magazine loaded through the buttstock, 19.5″ barrel, sliding tang safety, and lightweight Zytel synthetic stock. Only approximately 26,927 rifles were produced in Mohawk Brown and the much scarcer Apache Black configuration before the model was discontinued in the mid-1960s. This Mohawk Brown example carries an RM barrel date code for November 1965, placing it at the very end of the Nylon 76’s short production era.

This rifle retains approximately 92% of its original blue finish with scratches, scattered surface rust, light patina on the receiver, and normal handling and storage wear. The Mohawk Brown Zytel stock remains in Very Good condition with scratches and handling wear but no chips or cracks. The bore is bright with sharp rifling, no visible erosion, and some fouling in the grooves, rating 9/10 in this writer’s opinion. The short-throw lever action, trigger, and tang safety function correctly, though we did not fire this rifle.
