Our Assessment: This HK USP Compact in .40 S&W with a stainless slide, manufactured in 1999, is a durable and well-balanced handgun designed for both duty and civilian concealed carry use. The stainless slide offers increased corrosion resistance and a striking visual contrast against the polymer frame. This variant includes 10-round magazines, giving it solid firepower in a relatively compact and lightweight platform. The recoil reduction system built into the USP Compact helps manage the snap of the .40 S&W cartridge, making it comfortable to shoot despite its size.
This model is equipped with a combination safety and de-cocker lever allowing the shooter to carry “cocked and locked” like a 1911 or safely de-cock the hammer for a double-action first shot. The ergonomics of the USP Compact are excellent, with textured grip panels, and a reliable trigger system. Built during a time when HK emphasized rugged military and law enforcement use, this 1999 stainless USP Compact remains a respected and sought-after model for those who want a dependable and proven design.
