Our Assessment: Introduced in 1936, the Winchester Model 70 became one of America’s defining sporting bolt-action rifles. This New Haven-made Lightweight represents the U.S. Repeating Arms Company era, pairing the post-1964 push-feed action with a lighter hunting configuration and the enduring 7mm Mauser cartridge.
This example is distinguished by its exceptionally well-preserved original finish, excellent walnut stock, and bright 10/10 bore. Its serial-matching factory box and attached Winchester hang tags strengthen the rifle’s period presentation and help document its original Lightweight configuration.
