Our Assessment: The Winchester Model 94 is one of America’s most enduring lever-action sporting rifles, tracing directly to John Browning’s Model 1894 design. By the early 1970s, the post-64 Model 94 Carbine remained a mainstay of Winchester’s sporting line, particularly in .30-30 Winchester. The standard carbine configuration combined a 20″ round barrel, tubular magazine, straight-grip stock, and traditional open sights. Winchester’s factory serial-number reference lists serial number 3557385 at the end of 1971 and 3806499 at the end of 1972, placing serial number 3594577 firmly within 1972 production. As a firearm manufactured more than 50 years ago, this rifle now qualifies by age for federal Curio & Relic status.
This 1972 Model 94 Carbine remains in Excellent condition, retaining about 97% of its original blue finish with only light handling and operational wear. The two-piece stocks likewise remain in Excellent condition with only light handling wear and no chips or cracks. The bright bore retains sharp rifling with no observed erosion and only light fouling, earning a 9.5/10 rating. The action functions correctly, including the traditional half-cock safety and lever-actuated trigger safety. The receiver is factory drilled and tapped on the left side for a receiver-mounted peep sight, a feature Winchester standardized on the Model 94 beginning in the early 1950s. Overall, this is a particularly well-preserved early-1970s Model 94 Carbine in the classic .30-30 Winchester chambering.
