Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “SMITH & WESSON”, the right is marked “45 CAL. MODEL 1950”. The inside of the ejector shroud, rear of the cylinder, rear flat of the yoke, and ejector star are serialized to the frame with the barrel flat and cylinder markings preceded by “S”. The crane and cut are marked “16515”. The sideplate has the S&W monogram logo, the right of the frame has the four-line Marcas Registradas address. The butt is marked with the serial number. The inside of the right grip panel is stamped “100010”.
Barrel Length: 6 1/2″, Pinned, with shrouded ejector rod.
Sights / Optics: The front sight is a patridge blade pinned to a serrated, ramped base fixed to the front of the barrel’s serrated rib. The rear sight is a square notch in a base micrometer adjustable for windage and elevation screwed to the topstrap.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two-piece checkered walnut magna stocks with S&W medallions and smooth diamonds around the grip screw escutcheons. There are light handling marks in the form of scratches and small compression marks . The checkering is strong. There are no chips or cracks. The grips are in a Fine overall condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is defined. There is considerable lead fouling. This bore rates 8/10.
Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 94% of its metal finish. There is some finish loss on the sides of the barrel at the muzzle. There is handling wear in the form of scratches throughout. There are initials and a birthdate faintly scratched into the right side of the frame. There is a pronounced turn line on the cylinder. There are some little nicks on the trigger guard. The case coloring is faded. The screw heads vary from sharp to moderately tooled, though all appear serviceable. The markings are clear. Overall, this handgun rates a Very Good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The cylinder produces little side to side play in full lockup in all 6 chambers. The double action trigger pull is smooth, the single action is crisp. We did not fire this gun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This revolver comes with a extra set of smooth wooden grips with extractor relief.
Our Assessment: This Smith & Wesson’s Model 1950 .45 Target, which was made in 1953 or ’54. It is also know as the Pre-Model 26. The gun looks great for a revolver of its age with a good bore and light marks in its otherwise rich blued finish. For the dedicated S&W collector, this a great find with serial matching parts and box in this kind of condition. You likely won’t see another like this for a long time. Please see our photos. -C.B.
