Sights / Optics: The front sight is a brass bead. There is a white mid bead. The rib is serrated to reduce glare.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is two piece checkered walnut, capped semi pistol grip, fluted straight comb, and rubber recoil pad. The LOP measures 14 1/8″ and 13 1/8″ from the fronts of the triggers to the back of the buttpad. There is light handling wear. There are light scratches and compression marks throughout. There are a few light cracks expanding from the upper tang and on the bottom of the forend. There are no chips. Overall this stock is in about Good condition.

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bores are bright. There is no erosion in the bore. There are a few light fouling streaks. In this writer’s opinion these bores rate 9 out of 10.

Overall Condition: This shotgun retains about 65% of its original finish. The balance of the finish shows handling and storage wear. There are scratches and thinning throughout. There are a few light nicks throughout. The screw heads are tooled with serviceable slots. The markings are clear. Overall this shotgun is in about Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: The New Ithaca Double, or NID, was introduced in 1925 as Ithaca’s final major side-by-side design and remained in production through 1948. The NID used a strengthened boxlock action with a rotary locking bolt and was offered in multiple grades, including the highly finished Grade 4. This example is a 10 Gauge Grade 4 with 32″ barrels, double triggers, Full chokes, and bright 9/10 bores. Ithaca’s own serial-number records place serial 455705 in 1929, making this a relatively early NID rather than a gun from the broader 1926-1948 production span.

This shotgun rates in about Good overall condition and retains approximately 65% of its original finish. The metal shows scratches, thinning, and scattered light nicks, while the checkered walnut furniture rates in about Good condition with light handling wear and several small cracks extending from the upper tang and forend. Both bores are bright with no reported erosion and only light fouling, rating 9/10 in this writer’s opinion. The action functions correctly, though the shotgun was not test fired.
