Sights / Optics: The front sight is a beaded blade dovetailed into a hooded ramp integral to the barrel. The rear sight is an adjustable folding U notch dovetailed into the barrel. The left side of the receiver is drilled and tapped for a peep sight. The top of the receiver is drilled and tapped for a scope base.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is one piece checkered walnut, ebony tipped forend, capped semi pistol grip, cheekpiece, and rubber recoil pad with spacers. The LOP is 13″ from trigger to the end of the recoil pad. The stock has been shortened. There are scratches and compression dents throughout. There are spots of weathered finish loss most notably near the recoil pad. There are no chips or cracks. Overall this stock is in Very Good condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright. The rifling is sharp. There is no erosion. There is light copper fouling. In this writer’s opinion this bore rates 9/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 95% of its original metal finish. There are light scratches scattered throughout. There is handling and operational wear. The finish on the bottom metal is worn and corrosion stained. The screw heads are lightly tooled but serviceable. The markings range from faint to clear. The bolt is serial matched to the receiver with faint but legible markings on the bolt. Overall this rifle is in Good to Very Good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly, as does the safety. We did not fire this rifle, but we did perform a mechanic’s check. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: Introduced in 1936, the Winchester Model 70 quickly became one of America’s premier bolt-action sporting rifles, while the Super Grade represented the deluxe version of the line. Super Grade rifles received select checkered walnut stocks with ebony forend tips, cheekpieces, grip caps, and “SUPER GRADE”-marked floorplates, along with upgraded sight equipment. In .30-06 Springfield, the standard pre-64 Super Grade was fitted with a 24″ barrel. This 1952 rifle comes from an interesting transitional period in Model 70 production, when Winchester was beginning to introduce the revised Monte Carlo-style stock and corresponding sight changes. On pre-1955 Super Grades, the stock, marked floorplate, and appropriate front sight are particularly important identifiers because the barreled actions generally did not yet receive the later Super Grade-specific markings.
This example retains about 95% of its original metal finish with light scratches and normal handling and operational wear, while the bottom metal shows more noticeable finish loss and corrosion staining. The matching-numbered bolt is a desirable feature, and the bright bore retains sharp rifling with no observed erosion and only light copper fouling, rating 9/10. The checkered walnut Super Grade stock retains its ebony forend tip, capped pistol grip, and cheekpiece, although the butt has been shortened and fitted with a rubber recoil pad and spacers. The stock otherwise remains solid, with scattered scratches, compression marks, and localized weathering but no chips or cracks. Despite the alteration to the buttstock, this remains an attractive pre-64 Super Grade in the classic .30-06 Springfield chambering with strong original metal finish and a very good bore.
