Stock Configuration & Condition: The Gen 3 polymer frames have been extensively customized. The factory finger grooves have been removed and both grips have received distinctive fish-scale texturing across the frontstraps and flanks. The backstraps have aggressive stippling, with additional coarse-textured panels worked into the sides of the grips. There are scattered handling and operational marks. There are no notable chips or cracks. The grips rate in Good condition as custom.
Type of Finish: Black Cerakote
Finish Originality: Refinished with custom frame work. REV787 has an added Thunder Ranch slide logo and Recover Tactical charging handle.
Bore Condition: The bores are bright and the rifling is well defined. There is no erosion. In this writer’s opinion, both bores rate 8/10.
Overall Condition: These pistols retain approximately 80% of their original black finish. Both show considerable operational and handling wear including finish thinning, edge wear, scuffs, scratches, and contact wear on the slides. REV787 shows pronounced wear across portions of the slide, while REV788 displays similar but somewhat more moderate use. The markings remain generally clear. The custom grip work remains strong and well defined. Overall, these pistols are in Good condition as customized.
Mechanics: The actions function correctly. We did not fire these pistols. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This set includes four Glock factory 17rd magazines, a well-used black leather belt rig with two molded holsters and belt pouches, and two individual Clint Smith signed certificates of ownership. Both certificates state that the respective firearm was owned and shot by Clint Smith, founder of Thunder Ranch Inc., and each bears Smith’s signature.
Our Assessment: This is an exceptional pair of working Glock 17 Gen 3 pistols with direct provenance to Clint Smith and Thunder Ranch. Smith has been one of the defining figures in modern American defensive firearms training, and Thunder Ranch became synonymous with serious practical handgun, rifle, and shotgun instruction. These are not simply firearms that passed through Smith’s collection: the accompanying signed certificates specifically document that both pistols were owned and shot by Clint Smith. Their substantial operational wear and heavily customized grip frames are entirely consistent with the character of serious-use training pistols rather than presentation pieces. REV787 is especially distinctive, bearing the Thunder Ranch logo on its slide, a feature specifically noted on its accompanying certificate.
