Sights / Optics: There are no iron sights. A Weaver-style scope rail is screwed to the barrel and fitted with a Millett 3.5-10×50 scope. The sight picture is clear, and the scope rates in about Very Good condition.

Stock Configuration & Condition: This rifle has a two-piece walnut stock set with a rounded forend, capped semi-pistol grip, raised comb, and hard rubber buttpad. There is little to no wear. There are a few light scratches throughout. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures about 14” from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. Overall this stock set rates about Excellent overall condition.

Type of Finish: Blued

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no visible erosion. There is some light stubborn fouling throughout. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 9 out of 10.  

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 98% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows little to no wear. There are a few light scratches throughout. The screw heads are serviceable and the pins are unmarred. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle rates in about Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We have not fired this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment:  The Thompson/Center Contender G2 is the second-generation evolution of T/C’s highly versatile Contender platform, retaining its compact break-open single-shot action and interchangeable-barrel system while incorporating a revised action and trigger mechanism. G2 barrels remain largely interchangeable with original Contender barrels, allowing the platform to be configured in an extensive range of rifle and handgun chamberings. This example is configured as a sporting rifle in .30-30 Winchester with a 23″ barrel, attractive walnut rifle furniture, and a barrel-mounted Millett 3.5-10×50 scope.

This rifle retains approximately 98% of its original blue finish with little visible wear beyond a few light scratches. The walnut furniture remains in Excellent condition with only minor handling marks and no chips or cracks. The bore is bright with sharp rifling, no visible erosion, and some light stubborn fouling, rating 9/10 in this writer’s opinion. The action functions correctly, though we have not fired this rifle.
