Sights / Optics: The front sight is a beaded blade dovetailed into the barrel. The rear sight is a spring leaf U notch with elevator dovetailed to the barrel. The upper tang is drilled and tapped for a peep sight.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is two piece smooth walnut, capped forend, straight grip, straight comb, and crescent steel buttplate. The LOP is 13″ from trigger to buttplate. This stock has been refinished. There are light scratches and compression dents throughout. There is some minor iron staining around the wrist and buttplate. There are no chips or cracks. Overall this stock is in Very Good condition as refinished.

Bore Condition: The bore is semi bright. The rifling is defined. There is some light erosion and pitting throughout. In this writer’s opinion this bore rates 7/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 20% of its original blued finish. There are scratches and corrosion stains throughout. There is thinned bluing on the majority of the receiver and first half of the barrel. The screw heads are lightly tooled but serviceable. The markings are clear. Overall this rifle is in Good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The hammer has a half-cock safety position. The trigger is crisp. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: The pre-64 Winchester Model 1892 is one of John M. Browning’s most successful small-frame lever-action designs, combining smooth operation with a strong action sized for traditional pistol-caliber cartridges. This 1908 example is chambered in .25-20 W.C.F. and features a 24″ octagon barrel, full-length tubular magazine, straight-grip walnut stocks, crescent steel buttplate, and traditional open sights. Its octagon-barrel rifle configuration and early manufacture give it strong appeal as a classic Winchester sporting arm.
Introduced in 1892, the Winchester Model 1892 was developed as a stronger and more compact successor to the Model 1873 for cartridges such as the .25-20, .32-20, .38-40, and .44-40. The .25-20 W.C.F. became a popular small-game and varmint cartridge, offering mild recoil and useful accuracy in a light lever-action rifle. Model 1892 rifles with full-length octagon barrels remain especially attractive to collectors for their traditional proportions and close association with Winchester’s turn-of-the-century sporting rifle production.
